About Artist
Yvonne Oswald
Yvonne Oswald, born in Salzburg, studied graphic design and photography at the Parsons School in New York and at the Academy of Applied Art in Vienna, graduating with a Master of Art. Following a successful career in graphic and fashion design she decided in 2003 on photography. The perspective of uncoupling the formerly close relationship between man and nature determine Oswaldâs works in motifs of abandonment, abstractions of plants or details of landscapes composed into new pictures, a the dream like question as to what may be concealed beneath and as an unnoticed symbol of fragility. Yvonne Oswald became well known through her melancholy artistic studies of the abandoned SuÌdbahn Hotel on the Semmering mountain, place to be for the sophisticated Viennese Fin de SiĂšcle crowd. Her photographic projects have been shown in numerous exhibitions in Austria and abroad, including New York, Rome, Prague, Teheran, Isfahan and in 2024 in New York, Warsaw, Istanbul, Ljubljana and Paris. Her works are to be found in various international public and private collections, including the Belvedere Museum, Museum of Lower Austria, Spallart Collection, SuÌdbahnmuseum, the Jewish Museum in Vienna, among others. In recent years Yvonne Oswald has published 16 books on diverse subjects and repeatedly contributed to international magazines such as LâOeil de la Photographie, Christieâs Magazine, The World of Interiors, Parnass, Les Nouveaux Riches, Office Magazine, Art Daily and others. 'Time Travel - photography between Tradition and Modernity', as part of the European Capital of Culture Salzkammergut 2024, is her first curatorial project with three mayor museum shows in the Salzkammergut region and Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum in 2024, and Universalmuseum Joanneum in 2025. exhibitions and publications (selection since 2015): 2025 LENTOS MUSEUM, Linz - group exhibition UNIVERSALMUSEUM JOANNEUM, Graz - ZEITREISE 2024 ZEITREISE â Fotografie zwischen Tradition und Moderne, im Rahmen der EuropĂ€ischen Kulturhauptstadt Salzkammergut 2024, Grundlsee, Steiermark - Curator and participating artist ZEITREISE â Fotografieausstellung, Stiftung Mozarteum, Mozart Wohnhaus,Salzburg â Curator and participating artist Galerie PanĂšte Rouge â Touch Nature, Paris, Frankreich 2023 TOUCH NATURE project â Kulturforum Prag, Prag, Tschechische Republik ACF New York â Touch Nature Project, New York, New York, USA 2022 'Why Me' 30 portraits of people connected with the genocid of Srebrenica, BiH, book published by BhB Planten on Blomen â Gallery Statement, ARTVienna PARALLEL Vienna, Topographies of Transcience â Gallery Statement, (E) Das Blaue vom Himmel â Galerie Wolfrum, Wien FLORA IRANICA â From the Feet of the Alborz to the Peaks of the Alps â Yassi Foundation, Teheran, Iran FOTOWIEN - Landschaft versus Idyll, Galerie JĂŒnger, Wien FLORA IRANICA â Aknoon Gallery und Safavi Museum, Isfahan, Iran 2021 WE DON'T WANT NATURE â curated by Cajetan Gril, Kunsthaus Muerz, MĂŒrzzuschlag Interventionen â Galerie JĂŒnger, Wien Parallel Vienna - Wollen Wir Natur?
