About Artist

Jackie Robbins

I am Jackie Robbins an American artist residing in Malibu California, USA, since 1974. Living in and close to Nature and the natural environment of my home town and it's canyon lifestyle encourages and inspires me to meet everyday of my life expressing creative ideas that never stop flowing. Traveling to places around the world opens my heart and mind to incorporate the richly textured and vastly beautiful cultural diversities that have woven their way into my artistic expressions. "Inspiration floats in the air we breathe, taking it in and processing it into something extraordinary is magic" Relationships to the world and to people provide me with motivation to continue working and exploring. Becoming a Mother and my personal joys and losses in life have provided the grist for my processes. Artists are slaves to their passion to produce and create, in that there is no happiness or consummation without the achievement of the completion of 'the work'. I've always been inwardly driven towards this conclusion and realization. To be bold and take risks is necessary to achieve the end result, everything else is just practice for those moments I have an 'eye' that sees deeply, love for nature that is endless, respect for the documentation of moments and events, and most importantly the ability to lose myself in my processes, leaving me open to spontaneity discovery and exploration. I enjoy delving into feeling and emotion to celebrate many points of view. I use a camera to record my inspiration, ideas and to make a beautiful image. This is where my Art begins. Sometimes images are complete in themselves and other times they lead me to a deeper quest. I love color and working in different mediums. To paint with a brush is pure freedom, to cut and shape is cleverness in construction and promotes my inventive nature. To mix and use things in an original way is very satisfying and exciting and these tools help me move through the work. "Imagination is not in the same realm as reality, yet when the two meet it becomes complete satisfaction to the Artist" My techniques are unconventional, having invented them mostly through purpose. I like collecting and finding objects that resonate with my inner voice, and using them in my art pieces. The progression of my practice has led me to incorporate recycled material in my work and this continues to be an ongoing theme and aspiration. I awoke as an Artist in this life at birth in 1952. I announced to my parents that I was an artist at the age of 4. I received my first camera at the age of 10. I took my first studio drawing class from the nude figure at 11. In school I was given the honor and award for 'most promising to succeed' in the field of Art at age 16. I reached young adulthood as the peace and love generation blossomed, feminism was entirely appealing and solidified my desire to be an independent woman artist in all aspects of my being. I opened my first business at 26, and hung my fine art on the walls as decoration to enhance my skilled craftwork at 'Leather Waves', my very hippy boutique in Malibu California. It was there that people began connecting to my talent and love of making ART. "Being surrounded by one's favorite ART goes beyond decoration, it feels like HOME" Extraordinary individuals have shopped in my boutique and supported me generously. I developed my personal values and expressed my truth though my unique brand. I'm honored that my work has been collected and those people derive joy from seeing it and using it in their lives. I'm open to collaboration and enjoy fulfilling a patron's idea in a creative and unique way within my multiverse of creative suggestion, process and execution.
