About Artist
Katrina Martlew
Katrina has explored the natural world for the past 20 years photographing wildlife and endangered species to preserve images for future generations. Her photography expeditions have taken her to some of the most extraordinarily remote places on earth. From photographing Wild Snow Leopards in the enchanting Himalayas to tracking Gorillas in the dense jungles of Uganda. Born in Melbourne, Australia, Katrina was introduced to photography at the age of 13 and gifted her first camera at the age of sixteen, a 35mm Pentax Asahi K1000, her fathers camera, which she still treasures to this day. Katrina's father believed in learning photography the traditional way, teaching her to master the manual controls of the camera, understand light, and experimenting with shutter speeds and apertures. These teachings lead her to understand the true art of capturing an image and bringing the emotions of photography to life. Her traditional photography introduction lead her to discover the darkroom, where she spent priceless hours developing 35mm film and processing black-and-white images. A profound experience that provided her the patience and appreciation to navigate the unpredictability of Mother Earth.
