Marcus Peel (b. 1977, England) is a UK-based photographer, known for his graphic and abstract portrayal of architectural icons. Drawn to the unusual and unfamiliar of each subject, Marcus evokes emotion, sparks curiosity and reimagines the experience of architecture. His narratives capture the spirit of a design in unexpected ways, leaving the viewer to their own interpretation of each photograph. Strongly influenced by light and weather, he captures each subject under specific conditions to best represent it, whether it’s harsh midday sun to emphasise the monochromatic iron skeleton of Sydney Harbour Bridge, or cloud-covered night sky to enhance the eerie nature of a derelict Battersea Power Station, or soft dawn light to reveal the delicate textures and colours of Winchester Cathedral. Marcus’s photographs have won multiple awards, including Best in Category in the AOP Photography Awards, Silver in the Graphis Photography Annual, third place in the International Photography Awards and Gold in Px3. His work has been exhibited at a variety of galleries and museums including the Royal Academy of Arts, London, Anise Gallery, London and Design Museum Brussels, Brussels. His photographs have been featured in numerous publications, and he has been interviewed by photography and architecture magazines and online platforms. Marcus’s work is held in corporate and private collections.
