The zebras take their time to cross the river. They are massed in a small space almost touching each other. As soon as a male makes an attempt to jump into the river, the rest follow to make a quick exit, running through the shallow water, to the opposite bank of the river in Maasai Mara.

A herd of wildebeest makes a run to the mighty Mara River. To cross the river, the wildebeest mass together in a very small space, almost touching each other. The sounds of the migration – the honking and grunting of the wildebeest –are the loudest. It is an organized but noisy migration of animals.

Have you ever witnessed the roar of panic-stricken flamingos as they run from danger? Flamingos are on high alert for anything that flies toward them especially when feeding.  Panic-stricken flamingos created a beautiful wave of pinks and browns as they hurriedly crossed my camera viewfinder.

Honorable Mention

Zebras need to constantly travel to find fresh grass and water. Over time they gather in massive herds, of hundreds, as they migrate to better feeding grounds. Zebras are social animals, travelling in herds help protect the young from predators. I luckily saw the artistic pattern of zebras in Mara.
