For a couple of decades my work was focused on the detritus of our culture of mass consumption. My best known series focused on dead birds on Midway Island in the Pacific, whose bodies are filled with plastic. This project was published globally, and won several of the world's most prestigious photographic prizes. More recently I have turned my photographic eye toward beauty as a more hopeful and inspiring energy for our times. The image offered here is part of my new series titled "Belleza Desesperada," made in the extreme south of Patagonia, Chile.
