About Artist

Ganzorig Miimaa

Ganzorig Miimaa is a Mongolian photographer based in Ulaanbaatar, specializing in portrait, documentary, and staged photography. With over fifteen years of professional experience, he has established himself as one of Mongolia’s leading commercial and advertising photographers while simultaneously developing a body of artistic work that explores cultural heritage, national identity, and the intersection of tradition and contemporary life. In recent years, his primary focus has been documenting the legacy of Mongolia’s nomadic civilization through photography. Through portraits of falconers, horse archers, herders, traditional craftsmen, and historical characters, he seeks to present endangered cultural traditions from a contemporary perspective. His work combines historical and ethnographic themes with modern visual storytelling, creating a dialogue between the past and the present. Ganzorig’s photographs have received recognition in a number of prestigious international photography competitions. He was named Photographer of the Year at the 500px Global Photography Awards 2025 and received the Judges’ Choice Award in the Portrait category. His work has also been honored at the 35AWARDS, where he earned distinctions in the Male Portrait, Female Portrait, and Staged Photography categories, as well as at the reFocus Awards, where he received Second Place in the Professional Black & White Photography category. Alongside his artistic practice, Ganzorig collaborates with leading national and international organizations, brands, and development projects, producing commercial, editorial, and documentary photography. His extensive commercial experience contributes a high level of technical precision and craftsmanship to his work, while his personal projects remain driven by a passion for authentic storytelling, cultural preservation, and the human experience. His long-term mission is to document Mongolia’s nomadic heritage, traditional knowledge, and cultural identity through photography, preserving them for future generations while contributing to a broader global understanding and appreciation of Mongolian culture.
