About Artist

Satoshi Takahashi

Satoshi Takahashi is a Japanese photojournalist. He was born in 1981 in Akita, Japan. He studied photography at Japan University College of Art Department of Photography. Satoshi began his career as a freelance photojournalist in Cambodia since 2007. He had spent 11 years in the country covering social issues. In October 2018, Satoshi went back to Japan and currently he has been focusing on documenting stories of vanishing cultures in Akita prefecture concurrently with covering Cambodia. His photos have been published in newspapers, magazines around the world. In March 2019, Satoshi won the Domon Ken Award, one of Japan's most prestigious prizes for documentary photography, for his latest photobook, The Indomitable Spirit of Cambodian Resistance. Compiling works photographed in Cambodia between 2013 and 2018, the book documents social movements resisting the authoritarian regime. It has been selected for the permanent collection of the Ken Domon Museum of Photography. In addition, the book received several international photography awards, including The Prix de la Photographie, Paris (PX3), International Photography Awards (IPA), Budapest International Foto Awards (BIFA) and Moscow International Foto Awards (MIFA).
