Contemplation

Instant of grace. In a Hindu temple, a child captivated by a ray of light. Childhood remains forever the lost continent of our own mystery, which art alone allows us to sometimes reach, the moment of a splendor. Then the child takes us in poetry.

About Artist

Muriel Pénicaud

Muriel Pénicaud is a photographer, author, and committed advocate. Passionate about photography since the age of 11, she has developed a humanistic and poetic approach inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson's maxim: "To photograph is to put one's head, eye, and heart on the same line of sight." Her gaze reveals the invisible and harvests fleeting moments of poetry within ordinary life. Whether of a bird taking flight, the depth of a gaze, the significance of a gesture, the soul of trees, or women's freedom, her photographs reflect her quest for wonder and her social commitment. She has been exhibiting internationally since 2017 (Paris, Tokyo, Beijing, Pondicherry, Dakar, Barcelona, Athens…). In 2024, Skira Editions published her first monograph, "Matrix of Worlds," prefaced by photographer REZA. This book explores three primordial forces, earth, sky, and woman, the original matrices our species needs to survive and regenerate. That same year, she was awarded Overall Global Winner of the 2024 Julia Margaret Cameron Award. In 2025, she exhibited at the Photography Museum of Saint-Louis (Senegal) and participated in the Indian Photo Festival in Hyderabad. In March 2026, the Civico Museo Parisi Valle in Maccagno devoted all its galleries to "In Cielo, In Terra," her first major solo exhibition in Italy, bringing together nearly seventy works over three months. That same year, she exhibited in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (April–September) at the Nouvel Art Showroom alongside sculptor Jaana Myöhänen, showed "Femme Espoir" at We Are Lille (May–September), participated in the Festival Off d'Arles with photographers Elvira & James Vil, and closed the year at We Are Paris with a Japan-focused exhibition (October–December). Former French Minister of Labor, ambassador, and business executive, she continues her commitment to women, youth, and the arts. Convinced that art is a powerful lever for transformation, she founded the Sakura Foundation to support emerging artists engaged with societal issues and chairs the jury of several photography awards: La Puissance du Lien by Sakura, Immersion/s, and the Trophées Photo Jeunes d'Avenirs.
